Hill Climb Challenge Wins National Award

“We just wanted to create something that was accessible 24-7, at no cost, that people could do in their own time,” Mr Shivnan said.

Gisborne's Kaiti Hill Challlenge has earned Sean and Fiona Shivnan, the events founders, the Community Impact Award at the ninth annual New Zealand Sport and Recreation Awards.

Established in 2013, Sean and Fiona set out to encourage people to use a free resource in Gisborne’s environment to develop fitness and community spirit with the aim of the annual challenge being to climb Kaiti Hill 68 times, the equivalent of climbing 8840-metre Mt Everest.
